NEW YORK UNIVERSITY ABU DHABI
The campus covers 450,000 square metres and reaches heights in excess of 50 metres. It was designed by award-winning architects Rafael Vinoly and developed by state-owned investment company Mubadala. Features on the campus include academic buildings, a library, theatres, indoor sports facilities, student and faculty residences and laboratories. There is also a site wide basement for servicing and parking and a two level podium. The project also includes additional outdoor sports facilities, including pitches, a grandstand, and an athletics track. The total site cover 15.4 hectares, split into two plots. The second plot houses the university sports facilities including a Track and Field arena with showcase pitch for soccer, a training pitch and six tennis courts together with a locker room and club house facilities. ARP provided specialist AV Consultancy Services including Design, Tender Documentation, and Tender Services for the Administration facilities. The development is the gateway to the new campus, comprising of seven separate buildings each with distinct purpose and character. The primary goal for the design of these facilities, which together total nearly three million square feet, included creating a unified architectural language for the buildings each with distinctly different programmatic requirements, mitigating the effects of the harsh desert climate of Kuwait and creating a design that drew inspiration from local vernacular architecture. The project consisted of the following buildings: • Central Administration Building with a total plot area of 12,680 square metres. • Conference Centre with total plot area of 11,334 square metres • Grand Mosque with a total area of 2,667 square metres • Convocation Hall, including a 1,600 seat theatre for annual graduation ceremonies • Cultural Centre for Kuwait History Museum and Exhibition spaces • Central University Library with a total plot area of 8,787 square metres • Visitor’s Centre with a total plot area of 2,376 square metres ARP provided specialist AV Consultancy Services including Design, Tender Documentation, and Tender Services for the Administration facilities.
